Reading an MPC decision
- The vote split. Because individual votes are published, a 5–4 decision tells markets far more than the headline rate. A growing minority for a change often comes before the change itself.
- Monetary Policy Report meetings (February, April, July and November in 2026 and 2027) bring new forecasts for growth, inflation and unemployment, and a press conference with the Governor.
- Market impact. The decision moves sterling (GBP/USD, EUR/GBP — see Forex), gilt yields and the FTSE 100.
